Amritpal Singh fled Punjab to Haryana, stayed at Shahbad in Kurukshetra for two days: Sources

Chandigarh: The Punjab Police is conducting an operation for the sixth consecutive day to arrest Amritpal Singh, the chief of pro-Khalistani and radical organization ‘Waris Punjab De’. According to police sources, he has fled from Punjab.

According to information received from police sources, he had fled from Punjab and went to Haryana. He stayed at Shahbad in Kurukshetra district on March 19 and 20. Police suspect him to be in Uttarakhand.

According to information received from police sources, Amritpal Singh stayed at one of his associates’ house in Shahbad in Kurukshetra on Sunday and left the next morning. Police have detained a woman Baljit Kaur. Kaur told the police that Amritpal had come along with another associate Papalpreet.

“We have arrested Baljit Kaur, a woman who gave shelter to Amritpal and his associate Papalpreet Singh in Shahbad on Sunday,” Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria said. The woman has been handed over to the Punjab Police.”

Last month, Amritpal Singh and his supporters, brandishing swords and guns, barged into the Ajnala police station on the outskirts of Amritsar city. They clashed with the police demanding the release of one of the radical preacher’s aides. The Punjab Police had last week initiated action against Amritpal Singh and ‘Waris Punjab De’.
