Air India plans to induct 30 new aircraft in its fleet

New Delhi: After the country’s leading aviation company Air India went into the hands of the Tata Group, its new updates are constantly coming out. To increase its capacity, Air India plans to add 25 narrow-body Airbus and 5 Boeing wide-body aircraft to its existing fleet. This will increase Air India’s fleet by more than 25 percent.

Air India to induct 30 new aircraft later this year

Air India has signed leases and letters of intent for 25 Airbus narrow-body and 5 Boeing wide-body aircraft, which will join service from the end of 2022. These new aircraft will now expand the fleet after the Tata group acquired Air India earlier this year. The aircraft being leased include twenty-one Airbus A320Nion, four A321 Neon and five Boeing B777-200LRs.

Air India’s new aircraft will run on these routes

According to the airline, the B777-200LR will join the fleet between December 2022 and March 2023, and will be deployed for US flight service from Indian cities. There will be flights to Mumbai San Francisco as well as both international airports in the New York region, Newark Liberty and John F Kennedy, while flights from Bangalore to San Francisco will run three days a week. Due to these aircraft, Air India will offer premium economy flights for the first time.

Commenting on the fleet expansion, Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director, Air India, said, “After a long time, Air India is very happy to resume expanding its fleet. These new aircraft, back into service with existing aircraft, will meet the urgent need for greater capacity and connectivity and take a strong step forward. Air India has exciting expansion and renovation plans, of which these new aircraft are just the beginning.
