New Delhi: Two employees of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi have been suspended in connection with the cyber attack. Both of them are system analysts. Both were earlier served show cause notices. Not satisfied with the reply, the AIIMS administration has suspended both of them.
Meanwhile, 30 out of 50 servers of AIIMS have been scanned by inserting anti-virus. AIIMS has 5000 computers. Out of that, about 2000 computers have been scanned so far.
In view of this, the AIIMS administration has ordered all the heads of departments and heads of all the centers to take backup data from the computer to a separate hard disk.
There was a cyber attack called ransomware on the computers of AIIMS. AIIMS has about 5,000 computer systems and 50 servers.
After 6 days of hacking the server, hackers have finally expressed their intention. The hackers have demanded a ransom of Rs 200 crore in exchange for releasing the server. Hackers do not want to take this money in Indian currency or US dollars but in virtual cryptocurrencies, so that they can not be traced.
Meanwhile, online services have been disrupted at AIIMS Delhi since November 23. All services are in offline (manual) mode. In such a situation, the number of employees working in manual mode has also been increased, so that patients coming from far and wide for treatment do not have problems.
The server of Delhi AIIMS was hacked at 6.45 am on November 23. This was first detected in the computer center of the emergency lab, after which gradually the server of the entire computerized system of the hospital was taken over by the hackers through ransomware attack. Since then, efforts are being made to clean the server and free it from the clutches of hackers.
The Delhi Police is investigating this hacking while experts from the India Computer Emergency Team (CERT-IN) are trying to deal with hackers online. AIIMS treats 38 lakh patients every year. This cyber attack is likely to steal the data of patients.
