New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party termed congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remarks on President Draupadi Murmu outside the House as anti-tribal and anti-poor and demanded an apology from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Raising the issue, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said congress leader in the House Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had insulted Draupadi Murmu, the country’s first woman tribal president, by calling her a “national wife”. Irani said Chowdhury insulted Murmu by taking to the street, who holds the highest constitutional post in the country.
