Chandigarh: Controversial Dera head Ram Rahim who is lodged inside Sunaria jail in Haryana’s Rohtak on heinous crimes like rape and murder has now been released on a month’s parole by the Haryana government.
This is for the first time that Ram Rahim has been released on parole. In the meantime, he will remain at his camp in Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh.
Parole sanction was kept secret and today at 7 a.m., he was taken out of Sunaria jail and sent to the camp in Baghpat under heavy security.
He has been provided Z category security during parole.
Ram Rahim had earlier come out of jail in February 2022 on a 21-day furlough ahead of polls and he stayed at his farm house in Gurugram. He was earlier taken on a day’s parole to meet his mother who was admitted to a hospital in Gurgaon.
There were allegations by the opposition parties against the BJP for allowing him furlough to gain mileage in the elections regarding his release before the Punjab elections but the BJP maintained that furlough and parole were the legal right of any prisoner and everything has happened as per the law.
Ram Rahim is serving a life sentence on charges of murder of his manager in 2002 and rape of his two disciples in 2017. He has been lodged in Haryana’s Sunaria jail since 2017.
In 2019, Ram Rahim had sought 42-day parole to visit the fields near his sirsa-based camp, but his application in this regard was strongly opposed by the opposition parties and the government had pulled back from it and the parole was denied.
