9 killed as car falls into river in Uttarakhand

Nainital (Uttarakhand): Nine residents of Punjab were killed when a car was swept away in Dhela river due to rain in Ramnagar in Nainital district of Uttarakhand early this morning.

The dead include three women. According to the police, the accident took place around 6.45 am when they were returning to Punjab. The bodies of four victims of the accident have been recovered while five others are trapped in the car.

Nazia, a 22-year-old woman who survived the accident, has been evacuated safely. She has been admitted to Ramnagar Hospital for treatment. Efforts are being made to extricate the remaining bodies. All the 10 tourists were staying at a resort in Dhela.

Of the nine killed, three belong to Patiala district, while one belongs to Sangrur. All these DJs were members of the party and had gone to Uttarakhand to attend the event. Two of the three persons belonging to Patiala district among the deceased are women. Among them, Jahnvi alias Sapna was a resident of village Inderpura Patiala and Kavita’s wife Bhupinder Singh resident Angad Dev was a resident of Kaloni Rajpura.

Pawan Jacob’s son Surjit Jacob was a resident of Bhim Basti Safabadi Gate in Patiala. One of the deceased, another Patiala resident, has been identified as Iqbal Kumar of Bhim Colony Safabadi Gate.
