New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday announced that Visakhapatnam city is going to become the state capital.
“I have come to invite all of you to Visakhapatnam which is going to be our capital in the coming days. I will also shift to Visakhapatnam in the coming months.”
“We are organising a global summit in Visakhapatnam on March 3 and 4. Reddy urged foreign and domestic investors to come to us and see how easy it is to do business in the state of Andhra Pradesh.”
Earlier, Reddy had proposed Visakhapatnam as the seat of the state administration, making it clear that the future of the state lies in decentralised development.
As the headquarters, it will also be the base of the state governor, while the legislature will function from Amaravati. He had said that after the separation of Andhra from the erstwhile Madras state in 1956, the High Court would be moved to Kurnool, which was once the capital.
Reddy believes that the distribution of seats of executive, legislative and judicial functions across the state will promote equitable regional development. While there is no similarity in the country.
His staunch supporters in the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress (YSRC) party point out that it is inspired by the experiences of many capital cities.
