Twitter takes down Rahul’s tweet for revealing minor rape victim’s identity

New Delhi: Twitter India on Saturday has removed a contentious tweet of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for revealing the identity of a nine-year-old girl alleged rape victim on the micro-blogging site on Wednesday.
The action came after the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had issued a notice to Twitter, seeking appropriate action against Rahul’s controversial tweet for violating the POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act by revealing Delhi’s Nangal rape victim’s identity.
Gandhi had visited the minor girl’s family in Delhi on Wednesday and later he posted a tweet along with a picture of the parents of the deceased minor girl and wrote, “Parents’ tears are saying only one thing — their daughter, the daughter of this country, deserves justice. And I am with them on this path to justice.”
The victim, a nine-year-old Dalit girl, was allegedly raped, murdered and then cremated by the perpetrators, who are now in police custody.
A click on the tweet led to a message that read: “This tweet violated the Twitter rules.”
