Terror alert in Punjab ahead of PM Narendra Modi`s visit in Mohali

Chandigarh: An alert has been sounded ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab. The Prime Minister is coming to inaugurate the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) on August 24.

The central intelligence agencies have alerted the Punjab Police and expressed the possibility of a terrorist attack in the state.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also keeping an eye on the nexus between gangsters and militants.

Chandigarh Police has beefed up security at the inter-state bus stand of Sector 17 and Sector 43 here today. Security teams also searched the luggage of the passengers at the bus stand. Officials say that vigil has also been increased at the railway station. The Punjab Police has stepped up vigil at crowded places in the state and also increased nakas.

The central intelligence agency has recently stated that the lives of some Congress leaders in Punjab are in danger.

The security of these Congress leaders is being reviewed by the Punjab Police. Punjab Police’s security cover was also withdrawn from many leaders.

Ahead of Independence Day, the Punjab Police has also arrested four terrorists who are said to have links abroad. In Amritsar, there was a hue and cry after explosive material was planted under the vehicle of a sub-inspector of police.
