KAPURTHALA: Punjab Police have seized 20 kg of heroin worth 100 crore rupees in the international market with the arrest of two drug dealers by Kapurthala Police on Monday.

The two drug suppliers-dealers have been identified as Balwinder Singh of village Sarangwal Hoshiarpur and Peter Masih of Basti Danishmanda locality in Jalandhar. Peter has already been facing two criminal cases.

DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta said that when Police teams intercepted a truck and a Hyundai i20 car at high-tech Dhilwan Police naka in Kapurthala on Monday, the search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 20 kg heroin consignment.

The DGP added that the drivers of vehicles were signalled to stop at the Check point by the police party but the occupants tried to flee; however, the alert cops managed to nab them after a brief chase.

The police recovered 20 packets of heroin (one kg each) from their personal possession during their body check and from the 2 vehicles, said the DGP. HS Khakh, SSP Kapurthala, added that two special cavities had been created in the roof of driver’s cabin of the Truck by the drug suppliers to conceal the consignment during transportation.

DGP added during preliminary investigations, the drug dealers disclosed that a heroin consignment was being smuggled from Purmara Mandi in Srinagar by Balwinder Singh in a truck bearing registration number HR-55K-2510 and Peter Masih collected the consignment from him.

The DGP said that a narco-gangster angle is being suspected in the case as the investigations carried out so far had indicated that Peter Masih had been sent to collect the consignment by Gagandeep, brother of the notorious gangster Rajnish Kumar alias Preet Phagwara.

The Police would produce the arrested accused before the magistrate and would seek their police remand for further investigations and to unearth all the links involved in this drug network, said Kapurthala SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested the former DGP Punjab Sumedh Singh Saini in a corruption case on Wednesday.

A case u/s 409, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B IPC and 7(A)(B)(C) and 7-A, 13(1) r/w 13(2) Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 registered on 17/09/2020 at Police Station,VB, Punjab at Mohali. He was produced in the local CJM court of SAS Nagar on Thursday to get his remand.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau said that the Director of WWICS Estates Private Ltd Davinder Singh Sandhu in colluding with Deputy Director Ashok Sika PCS, now retired, and Senior Town Planner Sagar Bhatia, now retired and others officials of local government converted illegally an agriculture land into residential colonies namely Green Meadows-1 and Meadows-2 at Kurali, S.A.S district by fraudulently hiding the actual facts and showing fake documents in the year 2013.

In this regard, a case had been registered at a SAS Nagar police station against all the aforementioned accused.

Giving details of the case he informed that during the probe, it came out that Davinder Singh Sandhu was known to Nimardeep Singh, Executive Engineer of P.W.D who is well known to higher authorities. In this connection, Nimardeep Singh received a bribe amount to the tune of Rs 6 crore from Davinder Singh Sandhu for getting their above-mentioned colonies certified. Thereafter, Nirmardeep Singh, his father Surinderjeet Singh Jaspal and their aides Taranjeet Singh Aneja and Mohit Puri have also been nominated as accused in this land use conversion case.
He further revealed that during the investigation, it has come to light that Nimardeep Singh had purchased two Kanal house No. 3048, Sector 20-D Chandigarh and rebuilt the same house after demolishing in the year September, 2017 with the same bribe money i.e 6 crore. On being questioned, he revealed that the former DGP is residing as a tenant on the first floor of the house from 15-10-2018 and paying a rent of Rs. 2.50 lakh per month for the rented first floor.
It is worth mentioning here that after analyzing the financial transactions of Surinderjit Singh Jaspal & Sumedh Singh Saini’s bank account, it has came to the fore that Saini has transferred amount to the tune of Rs. 6 crore and Rs. 40 lakhs to the accused Nirmandeep Singh and Surinderjeet Singh Jaspal in their bank accounts from August 2018 to August 2020. This amount was not given in accordance with the rent deed.
The spokesperson highlighted that the accused further presented a new fact after deliberate conspiracy with Mr Saini that the tenant wanted to purchase the same house and in this context accused have done verbal agreement with tenant Saini. But as the new facts emerged during the probe, the accused furnished a copy of agreement to sell which was executed on 02/10/2019 owing to their attachment of property in the local court. This agreement was signed between Sumedh Singh Saini and Surinderjeet Singh Jaspal on a plane paper without any testimony.
Furthermore, he stated that this fake agreement to sell off house No. 3048, Sector 20-D Chandigarh was prepared by mutual consent between the accused Surinderjeet Singh Jaspal and Mr Saini in order to protect the attachment of their house in the court and used this as a value security. In this regard, Sumedh Singh Saini was arrested on August 18.

Nawanshahr: The district police today have registered a case on charges of abetment of suicide against three inspectors of the Garhi Kango Multipurpose Society, a government approved cooperative society here, after its secretary committed suicide.

An inquiry of Rs 1 crore embezzlement in the society by going on and deceased Sukhdev Singh was allegedly pressurized by accused inspector, following which he committed suicide after jumping in the river on August 11, the FIR states. His body was found in the Canal in Jalandhar, police said.

A case was registered against three Inspectors including Kapil Kumar, Baldeep Singh and Aseespal Singh of the Garhi Kango Multipurpose Society under Sections 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.

The case has been registered against them on the complaint filed by victim’s wife Manpreet Kaur of Nawanshahr.

In her complaint, she alleged that the accused has been mentally harassing him for a past few weeks and demanding Rs 6 lakh corruption threatening to implicate him in a false embezzlement case.

Inquiry officer and assistant sub-inspector Bikram Singh said that preliminary inquiry indicates that the accused had mentally harassed him, following which, he took this extreme step.

ASI said that they were reportedly pressuring him to pay Rs 6 lakh to clear his name in a ongoing department inquiry.

“Further investigation is underway and more people may also be named in the case. Accused are absconding and raids are on to nab them,” he said.
