Chandigarh : The rift within the Congress party has widen more as four cabinet ministers and nearly two dozen MLAs opened revolt against Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and sought his immediate removal from the state.

Rebelled leaders said that they have lack of faith in Captain that he would be able to fulfil the promises made to people including punishment to accused of sacrilege.

The four ministers including Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi along with around 30MLAs held a meeting in Chandigarh and demanded CM’s removal. They are on way to Dehradun in Uttarakhand to meet the All India Congress Committee general secretary and Punjab affairs in-charge on Wednesday and are likely to meet senior party leader Rahul Gandhi in this regard on Thursday, a senior party leader said.

“We do not have any faith in the chief minister as he has not fulfilled promises made before the 2017 assembly elections,” three of the ministers said after the meeting.

The unfulfilled promises such as delay in justice in sacrilege and police firing cases, arrest of the big fish in drug rackets and cancellation of power purchase agreements listed by them are part of the 18-point agenda handed by the central leadership to the chief minister two months ago for implementation. Randhawa told reporters that they had no confidence left in him (Amarinder), but changing the chief minister was the prerogative of the party high command.

PPCC chief, who was not part of the meeting, met the rebelled leaders later and later posted a photo with caption that Got a call from Tripat Bajwa ji asking for an emergency…Met him along with other colleagues at the PPCC office. Will appraise the high command of the situation.

Chandigarh: Hours after the Punjab and Haryana High ordered the immediate release of former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, Punjab Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Friday demanded the removal of three top officers of the government blaming them for the failure in this case.
He urged Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh Minister to remove Advocate General, Home Secretary and Chief Director Vigilance, for their professional incompetence.
High Court has directed the Vigilance Bureau to release former Director-General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini within 24-hour after his arrest.
High court observed that Saini’s arrest was violation of Court’s previous order dated October 11, 2018 and September 23, 2020 and anticipatory bail order on August 12 this year in which court had directed the issuance of seven day advance notice to Saini in case action was contemplated against him.
The orders by Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi of the High Court came at about 11:40 pm after observing the case.

Chandigarh: Attacking his own party’s chief minister once again, Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday questioned the Congress government led by chief minister Amarinder Singh over the “delay” in action on the report by Special Task Force (STF) on drugs.
In a series of tweets on Monday, Sidhu asked what action has been taken in the last 2.5 years. Further, he said that he will bring a resolution in the state assembly for making the reports public if delayed further.
“In February 2018, STF headed by ADGP Harpreet Sidhu filed “status report” in Punjab & Haryana High Court, investigating statements & evidence recorded by ED that were submitted before Hon’ble Court in case of Bikramjit Singh Majithia & others involvement in Drug trafficking, Sidhu wrote on Twitter adding that In 2018, I held Press Conference, asking the Govt to immediately act upon the information shared by STF with the Hon’ble Court, after investigating into incriminating evidence produced before Court by Enforcement Directorate (Sharing Court records with admissible statements).
He said that the Hon’ble High Court had asked Punjab Govt to proceed as per law on the STF Report. On 23 May 2018 Govt filed before the Court Opinion-cum-Status Report that still awaits the light of day in a sealed envelope. After 2.5 years of delay, how much more the People of Punjab should wait?
“What investigation had Punjab Police done? What action had Punjab Govt taken? Must be brought into the public domain. Since submission of reports, what further action did the state take in 2.5 years ? Govt must make itself accountable to the Public with complete transparency!!,” he questioned the functioning of the state government.
He further said that no substantial order has been passed by Hon’ble Court in 2.5 years on this matter that impacts lives of Punjab’s Youth. Govt must move plea for preponement of opening of sealed reports to the earliest taking case against Majithia to a logical conclusion, punishing the guilty.
“Punishing culprits behind Drug trade is Congress’s priority under 18-Point Agenda. What is the action taken on Majithia? While Govt seeks extradition of NRIs linked to the same case. If further delayed will bring resolution in Punjab Vidhan Sabha for making the Reports Public,” Congress PPCC chief concluded his tweet.
Meanwhile, last week the home, which is under the CM, wrote to STF chief, seeking to know the reason behind the delay in action against the big fish involved in the drug nexus in the state.
