Jalandhar: Following Covid-19 cases in government schools in Punjab, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori has asked the health and education department to ensure complete vaccination (both doses) of entire teaching and non-teaching staff in all government and private educational institutions by the end of this month.
“Any kind of laxity in this task would be dealt with heavy hands as safety of children cannot be compromised at any cost,” he said while issuing orders to all schools.
Chairing a joint meeting with the officials of the health and education department, the DC directed that a special drive be launched in both government and private schools and colleges to ensure that no one left without the vaccination.
He asked the district education officer to prepare a list of teaching and non-teaching staff who have taken either one or both doses adding that no one should be allowed to attend duty in schools unless they have taken both doses of their vaccines.
During the meeting, DEO Secondary and DEO Elementary have been asked to compile information of pending teachers for vaccination in two days through Google sheets and share it with district immunization officer for necessary camps in respective schools.
Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner also directed the education and health department to ensure strict adherence to Covid appropriate behaviour in schools including social distancing, masking, hand sanitizing, and others. He further asked health officials to ensure random RT PCR testing in schools so that virus spread could be kept under check.
