Phagwara: Miffed over alleged nepotism in organizing vaccination camp for facilitating people to combat Covid 19 pandemic, former Punjab Minister and Chairman of Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Joginder Singh Mann today staged protest at the local Civil Hospital Smo’s office.

Mann, accompanied by several Congress workers, said that at this crucial juncture when the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has launched a full scale war against the pandemic by ensuring free vaccination to all. However, he said that the local MLA and his coterie is playing cheap and dirty politics during the drive too by stalling the vaccination camps in Phagwara.

He said that instead of ensuring that vaccination reaches to all the people, the MLA is stooping too low by interfering in the smooth execution of the camps by the health department.

He said that Health department too is acting a puppet in the hands of the MLA and is indulging in nepotism thereby putting the life of the common people of Phagwara in peril. He said that it will not be tolerated as the interest of people is of paramount importance and the camps will be organized only at the places where it is required the most instead of whims and fancies of the MLA.

He said that in a democratic set up everyone has right over the facilities of government and it cannot be limited only to chosen ones.

Mann, a three time former MLA from Phagwara, bemoaned that in his entire political career he has not seen democracy stopping too low.

He said that interests of Phagwara residents have been of paramount significance for him and no one will be allowed to play havoc with them. He said that he has been serving the residents Of Phagwara since 1985 and will fight for every wrong thing which aims at harming the interests of Phagwara residents.

Chandigarh: Considering safety of students in schools in Punjab, state government issued fresh directions to all deputy commissioners (DCs) to conduct at least 10,000 Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests in schools across the state.

Chairing a coronavirus review meeting, chief secretary Vini Mahajan directed the health officials to conduct around 10,000 RT-PCR tests and DCs have been asked to ensure that only fully vaccinated teaching and non-teaching staff was allowed to attend the schools.

These samples have to be collected randomly among students and teachers to check the virus spread.

Punjab had reopened for all classes on August 2 and heads of all private and government schools have been asked to take at least 10,000 samples per day from Monday.

However, 27 government students tested positive from four districts in the state. 21 from Ludhiana, 3 from Abohar, 2 from Nawanshahr and one student in Amritsar tested positive on Tuesday.

As per the order, Ludhiana has given a target of 1000, Amritsar (790), Patiala (700), Jalandhar (647), Sangrur (570), Gurdaspur (565), Fazilka (562), Hoshiarpur (560), Bathinda (552), Tarn Taran (480), Ferozepur and SAS Nagar (420 each), Muktsar and Moga (390 each), Mansa (350), Kapurthala (260), Faridkot (250), Ropar (240), Fatehgarh Sahib and SBS Nagar (220 each), Barnala (210) and Pathankot (205).

DEOs in coordination with the Covid nodal officer of the district have to ensure that sampling and testing are done as per directions.

Meanwhile, there is a panic among parents of the school and health officials would conduct sampling of suspected coronavirus patients.

Himachal Pradesh: Considering a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has made it mandatory for tourists coming to the state to carry either the vaccination certificate (both doses) or the RT-PCR negative report issued not earlier than 72 hours.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that rising Covid-19 cases in the state has become a cause of concern and to combat virus spread concrete step has to be taken. the state has decided to re-impose some restrictions.
The state government has also directed tourists visiting the state to install “Aarogya setu” app on their mobile.
The decision has upset the Hindu devotees, who were planning to visit the Hindu shrines in the state and many people have also raised slogans against the HP government, urging them to revoke this decision.
Earlier, various videos went viral on social media in which tourists were seen thronging the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh after relaxation in Covid-19 restrictions lifted by HP government on entry. Shimla, Dalhousie, Dharmshala and Manali had witnessed heavy influx from the northern Indian states, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttarakhand and it led to a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Jalandhar: Canada has extended its ban on arriving passenger flights from India to September 21 citing the risks posed by Covid-19, the federal transport ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The ban was first imposed on April 22 and has already been rolled over several times. The measure does not apply to cargo flights or medical transfers.
“The Government of Canada is prioritizing the health and safety of all people in Canada by continuing to take a risk-based and measured approach to re-opening the border. Canada’s phased approach to easing border measures is informed by the continued monitoring of available data and scientific evidence, including the vaccination rate of Canadians and our improving epidemiological situation,” the government posted the statement on its official website.
The statement further reads that based on the latest public health advice from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Transport Canada is extending the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that restricts all direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from India until September 21, 2021, at 23:59 EDT. All direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from India are subject to the NOTAM. Cargo-only operations, medical transfers or military flights are not included.
Transport Canada is also extending the requirement related to third-country pre-departure COVID-19 molecular tests for travellers to Canada from India via an indirect route. This means that passengers who depart India to Canada via an indirect route will continue to be required to obtain a valid COVID-19 pre-departure test from a third country – other than India – before continuing their journey to Canada, government statement.
The Government of Canada continues to closely monitor the epidemiological situation, and will be working closely with the Government of India and aviation operators to ensure appropriate procedures are put in place to enable a safe return of direct flights as soon as conditions permit, it added.
The Government of Canada advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel outside of Canada – international travel increases the risk of exposure to COVID-19 and its variants, as well as of spreading it to others.
