Jalandhar: Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday appealed the Union External Affairs Minister for immediate evacuation of trapped Indians from Afghanistan, here on Monday.

In a tweet tagging minister, CM Capt wrote, “Urge @DrSJaishankar, MEA, GoI, to arrange for immediate evacuation of all Indians, including around 200 Sikhs, stuck in a Gurudwara in Afghanistan after the #Taliban takeover. My govt is willing to extend any help needed to ensure their safe evacuation. @MEAIndia”

There is mayhem in the country after Taliban have taken control of Afghanistan, almost 20 years after being ousted by a US-led military coalition and locals are attempting to forcibly enter planes leaving the Afghan capital. A video in which people were seen attempting to enter planes forcibly to flee the country has gone viral on the social media. In this chaos, at least five people reported dead.

Meanwhile, India is trying to evacuate hundreds of its officials and citizens from Kabul, officials said.

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered mandatory full Covid vaccination or negative RTPCR report for all those entering the state from Monday, with strict monitoring particularly of those coming from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, which are showing increased positivity.

Amid reports of Covid cases in schools, the Chief Minister has also directed that only fully vaccinated teaching and non-teaching staff, or those recently recovered from Covid, should physically teach in schools and colleges, with online learning option to remain available to all children.

He further ordered prioritisation of teachers and non-teaching staff for vaccination, with special camps to be held to ensure that all are covered with the first dose within this month and those due for the 2nd dose to be also prioritised. Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu suggested reducing the gap between the two doses to prioritise second dose for teachers and other school staff.

The directives came at a Covid review meeting chaired by Captain Amarinder Singh, who expressed concern about the positivity in Himachal Pradesh and other parts of the country, which has caused positivity in Punjab to also increase marginally to 0.2% in the last week, with RO going up to 1.05%. The Cambridge study has also predicted that cases are likely to double in the next 64 days, he warned, announcing new restrictions in addition to those already in force.

The Chief Minister has ordered at least 10000 test samples of students and staff from schools to be undertaken every day. Districts/cities where positivity is above 0.2 % have been asked to shut down physical education for Classes 4 and below until the situation improves.

The rule on full vaccination or negative RTPCR report will apply to all those entering Punjab by road, rail or air, announced the Chief Minister, adding that if a person is found to not have

either of these, RAT testing shall be mandatory, unless he/she has recently recovered from Covid.

On schools, which have recently reopened for certain classes in the state, the Chief Minister said while there were some reports of high positivity in schools, the fact was that intensive testing had shown that the positivity amongst school students is 0.1 % against overall positivity of 0.2 % in the past one week. Since 9th August, 41 students and 1 staff member in government schools have tested positive.

Calling for strict vigil, he directed the concerned departments to ensure that only fully vaccinated teaching as well as non-teaching staff shall physically teach in schools and colleges. In case the whole teaching staff is not fully vaccinated, those who are fully vaccinated can attend to the students in the school and virtual classes can be taken by teachers who are not fully vaccinated. The number of students should be suitably curtailed if enough fully vaccinated teachers are not available, ordered the Chief Minister, directing schools to allow seating of only one child per bench.

Captain Amarinder said parents of school going children should also be encouraged to immediately get vaccinated in order to enable the physical learning in schools without any interruptions.

Even as he expressed satisfaction over commencement of operations at the Whole Genome Sequencing Lab at GMCH Patiala in association with PATH, with none of the 8 samples tested there so far showing only delta variant, the Chief Minister noted that the month wise whole genome sequencing sent to NCDC has shown that the Delta variant remains predominant. Beginning today, 92 samples will be every three weeks for genome sequencing. The process for inclusion of VRDL Patiala in INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics) was on, the meeting was informed.

CM further noted that post Covid care was now available at all GMCHs and District Hospitals. The meeting was informed that Mucormycosis cases have come down substantially and only 1 case was reported last week as opposed to 6 in the previous week. Due disability benefits as per the eligibility are being provided to patients.

Jalandhar: Denying its involvement in the recent recovery of RDX explosive, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, belonging to the pro-Khalistan Sikh for Justice (SFJ) outfit, has said that they do not plant bombs but have trained ‘Sikhs as weapons’ to counter nefarious governments in the elections.

“Deliver this message to Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta and Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh that under the Khalistan referendum campaign, we have made ‘Sikhs as a weapon’ in Punjab who do not plant explosives but are equipped with meticulous knowledge of law and order to annihilate dastardly governments by votes in elections,” a recorded message in Punjabi said.

The calls have been made to Punjabis from a foreign number and the caller identified himself as Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of SFJ after the Punjab police found a Tiffin Box fabricated into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) or Tiffin Bomb along with five hand grenades and 100 rounds of 9mm pistol recovered from village Daleke, Lopoke in Amritsar. DGP Gupta suspected foreign hands in the terror act.

Earlier, this SFJ outfit, through similar calls, had threatened Punjab CM Amarinder and Governor VP Singh Badnore, to perish them if they the Indian tricolour the occasion of Independence Day on August 15th, Pannun was reportedly heard saying in an audio clip adding that at a time farmers are dying, the hoisting of tricolour shall not be tolerated.

Chandigarh: Attacking his own party’s chief minister once again, Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday questioned the Congress government led by chief minister Amarinder Singh over the “delay” in action on the report by Special Task Force (STF) on drugs.
In a series of tweets on Monday, Sidhu asked what action has been taken in the last 2.5 years. Further, he said that he will bring a resolution in the state assembly for making the reports public if delayed further.
“In February 2018, STF headed by ADGP Harpreet Sidhu filed “status report” in Punjab & Haryana High Court, investigating statements & evidence recorded by ED that were submitted before Hon’ble Court in case of Bikramjit Singh Majithia & others involvement in Drug trafficking, Sidhu wrote on Twitter adding that In 2018, I held Press Conference, asking the Govt to immediately act upon the information shared by STF with the Hon’ble Court, after investigating into incriminating evidence produced before Court by Enforcement Directorate (Sharing Court records with admissible statements).
He said that the Hon’ble High Court had asked Punjab Govt to proceed as per law on the STF Report. On 23 May 2018 Govt filed before the Court Opinion-cum-Status Report that still awaits the light of day in a sealed envelope. After 2.5 years of delay, how much more the People of Punjab should wait?
“What investigation had Punjab Police done? What action had Punjab Govt taken? Must be brought into the public domain. Since submission of reports, what further action did the state take in 2.5 years ? Govt must make itself accountable to the Public with complete transparency!!,” he questioned the functioning of the state government.
He further said that no substantial order has been passed by Hon’ble Court in 2.5 years on this matter that impacts lives of Punjab’s Youth. Govt must move plea for preponement of opening of sealed reports to the earliest taking case against Majithia to a logical conclusion, punishing the guilty.
“Punishing culprits behind Drug trade is Congress’s priority under 18-Point Agenda. What is the action taken on Majithia? While Govt seeks extradition of NRIs linked to the same case. If further delayed will bring resolution in Punjab Vidhan Sabha for making the Reports Public,” Congress PPCC chief concluded his tweet.
Meanwhile, last week the home, which is under the CM, wrote to STF chief, seeking to know the reason behind the delay in action against the big fish involved in the drug nexus in the state.
