Chandigarh: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has taken strong note of Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s violation of Sikh maryada by standing bare-headed in Sikh ardas and asked him to apologise.
He said that recently a video of Manohar Lal Khattar during the foundation stone laying ceremony of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Charitable Hospital at Faridabad in Haryana has surfaced, in which he could be seen standing bareheaded during ardas.
Advocate Dhami said that by doing so, the Haryana Chief Minister has violated the Sikh Maryada, which has deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikhs.
He said that there is a maryada of Sikh ardas, under which every person standing in ardas stands with respect with his head covered and both hands folded while being dedicated to God and Guru Sahib.
The SGPC president said Khattar belongs to Punjabi origin and is well aware of the Sikh Maryada. In spite of this, it is very sad and unfortunate that he has deliberately hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs.
SGPC chief said it was also regrettable that Gurwinder Singh Dhamija, general secretary of the unconstitutionally constituted Haryana Gurdwara Committee, was also seen standing with CM Khattar during the event.
Gurwinder Singh’s refusal to stop the Haryana chief minister from violating the Sikh maryada raises big questions. It is also clear from this that the office-bearers of the Haryana Gurdwara Committee, which was formed unconstitutionally on the government’s behalf with the aim of breaking the Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee( SGPC), are only the sycophants of the government.
They have nothing to do with the guarding of the Sikh Maryada, as revealed during the disobedience of maryada by Manohar Lal Khattar.
Advocate Dhami said Khattar should immediately apologise for the violation of Sikh maryada and the local Sikh leaders of Haryana present there must also clarify their stand.
