Chandigarh: The Punjab government has taken important steps to prevent road accidents in the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered the Home Department to set up police nakas outside all marriage palaces in Punjab.

During the earlier governments, drunken driving was punishable with imprisonment for six months or a fine of Rs 10,000 or both, but if caught for the second time, it could lead to imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of Rs 15,000 or both. While implementing the Motor Vehicles Act- 2019 in Punjab, the previous Captain government had removed the section of penal action against drink and drive.
