New Delhi: The Election Commission of Pakistan has disqualified former Prime Minister Imran Khan for five years. The ECP has found Imran Khan guilty of corrupt practices in the Tosha Khana case.
The ECP has also announced on Friday that Imran Khan is no longer a member of parliament. According to the ECP’s decision, legal proceedings will be initiated against Imran Khan for corrupt practices.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja announced the verdict at the ECP Secretariat in Islamabad. However, members from Punjab were not present for today’s announcement.
According to the verdict, criminal action will be initiated against Imran for making a false statement.
What are the allegations against Imran Khan?
Pakistan’s former PM and PTI chief Imran Khan was accused of misleading officials about gifts received from foreign leaders while in power. It is alleged that Imran Khan has sold several watches gifted by Toshakhana to a watch dealer for more than Rs 15.4 crore.
In August, the coalition government filed a petition against Imran Khan for “not sharing details” of toshakhana gifts and income from their alleged sale.
