New Zealand police arrest woman in The Korea over “bodies of children in suitcase”

Wellington: New Zealand police said they had arrested a woman in South Korea. The woman is accused of killing two children. The bodies of these children were found in suitcases purchased at auction last month.

New Zealand has applied for the woman’s extradition. It was a case that shook the country, with the bodies of the children traced by the unknown family who had bought those suitcases from a storage unit in Auckland.

The bodies were kept in those suitcases for several years. Police said the deceased were aged between five and 10 years.

Police said they had worked with South Korean authorities for the past three weeks searching for the woman and believed she was in South Korea. According to the reports, police had focused on the woman whose names have not been revealed after identifying the young children.

Detective Inspector Tofilau Famanuia Velua said the woman was arrested by South Korean police on Thursday morning and New Zealand police would apply not to grant her bail and extradite her. He said that the police got full support of the public in this campaign. According to local media, the suspected woman had links with dead children. The family of the deceased children had been living in Auckland for a few years and their father had died before their death, the media reported.

Police said the family, which traced the bodies, had purchased those suitcases from the storage unit in early August. Officials said the family had no connection with the children’s deaths but faced problems after the bodies were found.
