Chandigarh: The murder case of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala could have been solved within a few hours, but the laxity of the police gave the shooters a chance to escape.
Four of the six shooters were hiding in the fields of Khyala village after Moosewala was attacked on the evening of May 29.
The village is located about 10 km from Jawaharke (Mansa district), the site of the attack. Investigations have revealed that the Punjab Police could not quickly seal the borders with Haryana and Rajasthan, nor could barricades be erected.
According to sources, when the people informed the police about some suspects hiding outside the village, the police teams were dispatched to Khyala village. However, most of the police had to be sent to the Civil Hospital in Mansa where Moosewala’s fans were agitated and there was a fear of violence.
Apart from this, the police were also needed to handle the crowd near the place of the murder and the house of the singer’s village Musa. It is now believed that by the time the police reached Khyala village, the shooters had left the place or they could not search the fields properly. After Moosewala’s murder, gangsters Jagroop Roopa and Manpreet Manu snatched the Alto car and left for Barnala.
The two were killed in a police encounter in Tarn Taran about 50 days later. The other shooters , Priyavrat Fauji, Ankit Sirsa, Kashish and Deepak Mundi, had fled to Haryana but when they saw the PCR car behind them, they turned towards village Khyala where the Bolero car was stuck. The PCR vehicle passed by without stopping them and the shooters were hiding in the fields.
The shooters first made all this disclosure to the Special Cell of Delhi Police and now it has been verified with the Punjab Police with the statement of these shooters, which has also been mentioned in the charge sheet presented in the Mansa court.
No investigation has been conducted so far on the laxity of the police and the delay in putting up barricades after Moosewala’s murder and the PCR vehicle not stopping the Bolero.
