Chandigarh: Former Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal has resigned from the Congress party. He has sent his resignation to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Manpreet Badal, a close aide of Navjot Singh Sidhu, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the party’s headquarters in Delhi.
Manpreet Badal’s decision has dealt a major blow to the Congress in Punjab. Earlier, Captain Amarinder Singh had left the party. At the same time, veteran leader Sunil Jakhar also quit to the party to join BJP.
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Himachal from Punjab yesterday.
In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, Manpreet Singh Badal said, “I am resigning from the party with a heavy heart. My efforts have not been recognised in the party. It cannot remain a part of the current culture of the party for long. The decisions of the Congress regarding Punjab are very disappointing.”
