Liz Truss resigns as UK PM amid political crisis

London: British Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned and will remain in office until the next Prime Minister is elected.

She said before resigning today, “I could not do what I was elected by the Conservative Party. Truss said that I became the PM of the country at a time when the country is struggling with a big economic problem.”

A day earlier, Liz Trus had said, “I am a warrior and not going to leave the post of PM.”

Truss was PM for only 45 days. This is the shortest tenure of any British Prime Minister. Just weeks after Liz Truss took over as prime minister, mismanagement of the economy triggered a rebellion in the party. In the last one week, two ministers have resigned from the post.

Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Westminster, it has been found that members of the Conservative Party are regretting their September decision to elect Liz Truss as leader. Liz Truss recently presented a mini-budget in the UK Parliament. In this budget, steps were taken to curb rising taxes and inflation, although these decisions were immediately withdrawn by the government.
