Install status of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at India Gate, Badal urges PM Modi

New Delhi: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to install statues of revolutionary freedom fighters Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru at India Gate to remember their supreme sacrifice and their role in igniting the spirit of freedom.

In a letter to PM Modi, the SAD president said Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar are symbols of a new India in every way.

He said that the supreme sacrifice of these three and their spirit of dedication and love towards mother continues to inspire crores of Indians even today.

“If the country installs a statue at the India Gate, it will be a tribute to their martyrdom and their contribution in inculcating a sense of patriotism among countless Indians,” he said. Sukhbir Badal said that all the three martyrs were true sons of Mother land, who had carried out revolutionary activities to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai in 1928 due to lathi charge during a peaceful protest against the Simon Commission.

He said that shaheed-e-azam Bhagat Singh’s 1929 bomb in the Central Assembly Hall in Delhi as a symbol was also unique as he threw pamphlets on the spot saying that it was done to make a loud noise on deaf ears.

He said that the three sacrificed their lives very bravely in front of the people and Bhagat Singh even explained the rationale behind his activities from jail itself and refused to apologise or file an appeal for them. He said the dictatorial British Empire was forced to execute them ahead of schedule so that the government could avoid the wrath of the people. Badal said the country will always remain indebted to these great martyrs.

He said that their revolutionary steps ignited such a spark, due to which in a short time, this movement spread everywhere like wildfire in the country. “We will always be indebted to Bhagat Singh and his comrades for instilling the spirit of freedom among Indians, which led to this freedom later,” he said. “It is our duty to honour them for their martyrdom,” he said.
