Government withdraws orders to celebrate Cow Hug Day on February 14

New Delhi: The government on Friday withdrew its appeal to celebrate Valentine’s Day as ‘Cow Hug Day’. The Animal Welfare Board (AWBI) has issued an order in this regard. Earlier, the AWBI, which comes under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, had appealed to celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day on Monday.

“As directed by the competent authority and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the appeal issued by the Animal Welfare Board of India for the observance of Cow Hug Day on February 14, 2023, is withdrawn,” the AWBI order said on Friday.

There was a lot of resentment on social media after the Animal Welfare Board of India appealed to celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day instead of Valentine’s Day.

After this decision, hundreds of memes and jokes were made on social media. However, there are also benefits to hugging a cow. The Animal Welfare Board had cited the example that embracing a cow would bring “emotional prosperity” and “individual and collective happiness”.
