Doha: Bukayo Saka scored twice as England beat Iran 6-2 in their opening Group B match to make a stunning start to the FIFA World Cup here today. Saka scored in the 43rd and 62nd minutes. Apart from him, Jude Bellingham (35th), Raheem Sterling (46th), Marcus Rashford (71st) and Jack Grealish (89th) scored one goal each. For Iran, both the goals were scored by M Taremi (65th and 90+13th).
Bellingham scored in the 35th minute to give England the lead. Saka doubled the lead eight minutes later by scoring a goal. Sterling scored in the 46th minute and Saka defied Iran’s defense and scored in the 62nd minute to make it 4-0 before half. However, Taremi tried to reduce the margin of defeat by scoring two goals, but Rashford and Grealish scored two more goals. England’s next match will be against the United States on November 26.
