Earthquake of magnitude 6.4 hits Turkey, Syria again

New Delhi: Earthquake tremors were felt once again on Monday in the border area of Turkey and Syria. This time the intensity of the earthquake has been recorded at 6.4 reactors. Three people have been killed and 200 injured in Monday’s earthquake. Two weeks ago, an earthquake in Turkey and Syria caused heavy destruction, killing more than 47,000 people. Also, thousands of houses were damaged.

On Monday, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck near the southern Turkish city of Antakya. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).

Hatay Mayor Lutfu Savas told Haberturk broadcaster that he had received reports of some people trapped under the rubble following the latest quake.

Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said three people were killed and more than 200 wounded. The quake came hours after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on a visit to Turkey that Washington would help “as long as possible” in the wake of the February 6 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.

The death toll from the quake two weeks ago has risen to 41,156, the AFAD said on Monday. The death toll is expected to rise even more. 385,000 apartments have been destroyed or severely damaged. President Tayyip Erdogan said construction on about 200,000 apartments in Turkey’s 11 quake-hit provinces would begin next month.
