Birmingham: The 22nd Commonwealth Games began here with a spectacular display of Britain’s rich cultural heritage. Indian classical singer and musician Ranjana Ghatak led the programme on the occasion. Meanwhile, 70 cars in red, white and blue colours came together to form the British flag ‘Union Jack’. According to the tradition of the Commonwealth Games, the host of the Games Australia came first last time during the players’ parade.
After that other countries found entry into the stadium. When India, host of the 2010 Games, came in, people welcomed the players with a round of applause. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh led the Indian contingent.
