New Delhi: In a flabbergasting incident, a family left in shock after their dead family member walked inside home after four days after he died and buried near the Sathyamangalam town in Erode district.

According to the information, local police called the family after they found a man dead at a public place and later his son went to place and identified the body as his father Moorthy, 55, a daily wage labourer of Thuraiyampalayam.

He was rushed to government hospital but doctors declared him brought dead. Later, police conducted post-mortem examinations and handed over body to family.

They later buried him, however, four days after Moorthy walked into his home in Thuraiyampalayam near Bangalapudur, leaving his family gobsmacked.

Police officials said that it all happened due to an uncanny resemblance between the real Moorthy and the man who had died and he told the police that he went for work and remained there for four days. He did not have a phone to call the family. “

Police said that even the family did not identify him as deceased had a similar resemblance to Moorthy even his wife cried for two hours over the body before burning him.

Jalandhar: The recruitment of Patwari has not only captivated the youth of Punjab but this time a stupendous number of women have also shown their interest in this post, which even offers a mere Rs 5000 as a stipend during the 18-month training.

As per the records, out of total 2.33 lakh applicants, 1.02 lakh females ( about 44%) had applied for the patwari post in the state.

The recruitment process for the post is underway and the Services Selection Board (SSB) had conducted a written test on August 8 and the result is likely to be announced on Wednesday while the recruitment process for the second phase will be held soon.

The state government is conducting this Patwari exam after four years.

The data states the highest number of applications were received from Patiala as 21, 567 people applied for this government post followed by Sangrur 19, 974, Bathinda 18, 126 applications and with 17625applications Fazilka stood 4th while 12, 336 applications came from Mansa district.

In the Doaba region, the highest 7141 applications were received from the Jalandhar district. Similarly, 2183 people applied from Kapurthala and 2667 from SBS Nagar district for the post.

As per the government records, there were around 200 contenders for each post as against 1152 posts over 2.33 lakh applications were received by the department, indicating a craze for government’s job among Punjabis.

Astonishingly, even the mandatory qualification was the only graduation for this post, applications were M.phil, PhD, postgraduates and other higher qualification students.

From 2.33 applicants, over 1.71 candidates had appeared for written examinations at 550 centres across the state last week. The exam was in multiple-choice questions format and there will be negative marking.

SSB Chairman Raman Behal said that now the department would hold the second test for shortlisted 11,520 candidates.

A senior administration official, on request of anonymity, expounds the craze for this post among youngsters, “Many consider this a lucrative post as the concerned officer has access to revenue records and people pay a hefty amount to make corrections in land records especially in rural areas.”

Meanwhile, if selected, a newly recruited will get Rs 5,000 as a stipend for18-month training and later the person would get Rs 20,000 for the first three years

Kapurthala: For the first time in its history, the Sainik School, Kapurthala, has enrolled girl students for 2021-22 academic session, here.
The school management enrolled the girl students following the Union government’s objective of enabling greater participation of women in the Armed Forces, and strengthening the motto of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’.
The school has enrolled 10 girl students in 6th standard for the first time since its establishment in 1961 after a recent directive issued by the Ministry of Defence. The classes began on August 1 this year.
There are a total of 33 Sainik Schools across the country, which helps young cadets prepare themselves to be part of the National Defence Academy, Kadakwasla. But none of the schools had been admitting girl students until now.
In line with the Union government’s objective of enabling greater participation of women in the Armed Forces, and strengthening the motto of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’, all the Sainik Schools will be enrolling girl students from the next academic session.
The application process for All India Sainik School Entrance Examination started on October 20, and Kapurthala School had received over 300 applications from students. The school conducted the entrance exam at five centres across the state i.e. Kapurthala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Faridkot by the National Testing Agency, who sought admission to Class 6 and Class 9 in any of the 33 Sainik Schools across the country.
The official spokesperson of school principal Col Prasant Saxena said that 10 students have been enrolled in the school and online classes of students have been started for this session.
A School spokesperson said that arrangements are being made to make the stay of the girl students safe and comfortable in the school. The school management is likely to open the school from next week.
The 250-acre campus in the heart of Kapurthala city was inaugurated on 8th July, 1961 by the then Defence Minister VK Krishna Menon, with the objective of preparing boys academically, physically and mentally to join NDA. The School is located in the palace of the erstwhile maharaja of Kapurthala and this palace was built in 1908 on the pattern of Versailles built by Louis- the xiv of France. It has been fulfilling its basic objective by producing more than 700 officers for the Indian armed forces through National Defence Academy.

Jalandhar: A flustered, 40-year old Kamaljeet Kaur of Chuhar Chak village of Moga, wants police to lodge her both unemployed sons (aged 18 and 19) in jail as they are selling all household belongings due to their drug addiction.

On Thursday, clamouring for an immediate ban on unabated drug peddling in the village, Kaur joined a protest in the village against the local administration’s alleged inaction against the drug peddlers as she pleaded that her both drug-addicted sons yesterday even sold the wheat from house to buy drugs.

“The administration and police are not doing anything. I am even requesting the police to arrest my both sons in any case. I feel, this was the only option left now to prevent them from buying drugs by selling our household goods,” said a crestfallen Kaur.

Eventually, this is not the only story of Kamaljeet but there are several mothers and families in the village, who are suffering from drug menace, and cordoned off the main road of the village leading to an ‘infamous street’ to eradicate drug menace from the village.

The villagers have also installed a hoarding at the entry point of this street, which reads, ‘Gali Vich Chhita Bechana-Lain Jana Manna Hai’ (Buying and Selling drugs are prohibited in this street).

Inhabitants of the village alleged that out of over 30 houses located in this street, around 7 are in the nefarious business of drug peddling. It has been 8 days since they cordoned off the village, said locals.

Villagers identified 17 drug peddlers

“We have identified 17 persons, who are allegedly selling drugs in the street and this list has also been shared with the local police station on various occasions in the past but to no avail, said Gurdarshan Singh (73), retired sub-inspector from CRPF.

He said this illegal practice of drug peddling has worsened here in the past 2 years. “Now residents of the village have decided to end this illegal practice on our own to save a coming generation from this menace,” he added.

Another resident, Resham Singh (45), said, “Last year, I found that my son started taking drugs and he was buying them from our neighbours. Therefore, I had to shift him to Daroli Bhai village with my relatives. I am not allowing him to visit his village. Now we have cordoned off the road and are not allowing anyone to buy drugs.”

Mandeep Kaur (57), said, “I am living in this street and it was impossible to pass from this street as it remained crammed with parked vehicles of drug addicts. Therefore last year I along with dozens of women went to the local police station to seek help, but nothing happened.”

Charanjeet Kaur, sarpanch of the village, said, “We all want to eradicate drug menace from the village. Around 12 persons, who lived around that street, had reportedly died of drug addiction in the last two years.”

Meanwhile, the heavy police force was present in the village on Thursday to pacify the protestors assuring concrete action into the matter.

Harmanbir Singh Gill, SSP Moga said that he has asked SP (detective) to look into villagers’ allegations.

Jalandhar: The Punjab and Haryana High court has issued a notice of motion to the state government and asked to submit a probe report on September 7 for issuing grants to Divya Gram non-exist village in government records, on Thursday.

The move came after a civil writ petition filed by Puran Singh of Nurmahal, creation of a ‘fake gram’ panchayat allegedly by the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan(DJJS) in Nurmahal.

Singh, claiming to be the former driver of DJJS head Ashutosh Maharaj (clinically dead but claimed to be in Samadhi), sought the information through RTI information, a copy of which with), revealed that Jalandhar village Divya Gram reportedly does not exist in revenue records but was getting grants for developmental works.

Following this, he had filed a civil writ petition which was listed before the bench of Justice Anil Kshetarpal.

He submitted in the court that a fake gram panchayat, village Diviya Gram, has been created in order to siphon off funds granted by the 14th Finance Commission as also the Local Area Development Fund and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). The rural development and panchayat also receive grants from the board.

Advocate Baltej Singh Sidhu said, “The department constituted a gram Sabha for a non-existing village and took development grants. A legal notice was also sent to the state for conducting a probe but no action was taken,” he told the court.

He said that the court directed the state government to conclude the inquiry into the entire matter and placed it on record on adjourned date of September 7 the court.

The village reportedly received grants worth Rs 2.59 lakhs under MNREGA and the number of houses in the village listed is 59 but the government’s revenue department does not have any records of it which is illegal as per the law, the advocate said.

When contacted, Block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) Pawanpreet Kaur said, “A department inquiry is going on into the matter and a reply will be submitted in the matter before the high court.”

JUNEAU, Alaska (Reuters) – Alaska’s famed sled-dog race is set to get underway on Saturday when dozens of mushers and dog teams from around the world begin their near 1,000-mile (1,600-km) journey through the U.S. state’s frigid wilderness.

The ceremonial start in Anchorage sets the stage for the official timed start on Sunday of a race that commemorates a 1925 rescue mission that carried diphtheria serum to Nome by sled-dog relay.

<img decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1603 aligncenter" src="http://ubiqtv.com/storage/2016/03/2016-03-06T045909Z_2_LYNXNPEC25016_RTROPTP_4_USA-IDITAROD-1024x683.jpg" alt="Alaskan musher DeeDee Jonrowe and her team leave the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race to begin the near 1,000-mile (1,600-km) journey through Alaska's frigid wilderness in downtown Anchorage, Alaska March 5, 2016.
The trail cutting through Alaska’s tundra to the Bering Sea coastline is marked by darkness, steep climbs, temperatures expected to dip as low as 60 F below zero (-51 C), and fierce winds powerful enough to throw teams off the trails.

“Last year is done and gone,” said two-time defending champion and course record holder Dallas Seavey, 29, who is seeking to become the sixth racer to record four victories. Each of the last four races has been won by either Seavey or his father, Mitch.

“I would assume most of my competitors are coming back with better teams than they brought in the past. I know I am.”

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-1616 aligncenter" src="http://ubiqtv.com/storage/2016/03/2016-03-06T045909Z_2_LYNXNPEC2501F_RTROPTP_4_USA-IDITAROD-1024x683.jpg" alt="Lars Monsen, a musher from Norway, waits for a handler to untangle his team just after the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in downtown Anchorage, Alaska March 5, 2016.
Saturday’s events are known for drawing hordes of fans armed with cameras and banners who gather to cheer on the 85 mushers, a number of them from as far away as the United Kingdom and Sweden, as they ride through the streets of downtown Anchorage.

A lack of snow in the state’s largest city, however, forced race organizers to shorten the race’s ceremonial start to three miles (4.8 km) from 11 miles (17.7 km), despite efforts to bring in fresh snow by train from Fairbanks, Hooley said.

Mushers will hit 21 checkpoints with distances between stops ranging from 18 to 85 miles (29 to 137 km) before reaching the finish line in the coastal community of Nome, after traveling some 975 miles (1,569 km).

Winners usually cross the finish line between the eighth and 10th days. The winner will receive $50,400 and a new truck.

“I’m more nervous about the ceremonial start than the timed start,” said Miriam Osredkar, 38, one the 17 rookie mushers. She grew up in Ohio and has completed races in Idaho, Wyoming, Russia, and Alaska. “For me, the (timed) re-start, it’s just – get me out on the trail and let me be with my dogs.”
