New Delhi: In the new report of the Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health, it has been said that in the year 2019, 9 million people died due to pollution all over the world, in which India was the worst. In India alone 23 lakh people lost their lives due to pollution. The stubble burning is also attributed a major cause of rising pollution.

Many more shocking revelations have been made in this report, which shows how pollution is killing people by entering their bodies like slow poison. It has also been told in this report that the worst level of pollution is in the cities of North India.

Pollution causes the death of 90 lakh people every year

In this report of Lancet, data has been taken from a report of Global Burden of Disease, in which it has been told that about 9 million people are dying every year due to pollution but the worst condition is in India. .

1 million premature deaths every year in India

Every year about one million people die in India due to pollution, but the highest death occurred in the year 2019 when pollution became the reason for the death of 23 lakh people. Although the death rate due to household pollution such as burning fuel in the house or the pollution present in the water consumed in the house has decreased in the last few years, however, industrial pollution and stubble burning have increased many toxins and chemicals in the air, which increases the pollution in the air gigantly.

This study also revealed that more than 90% of the people who died due to pollution lived in low-income or middle-income countries. India is at the top of these countries where 23 lakh people died and at number two is China where about 21 lakh people died.

It has also been told in this report that the death due to pollution also had an effect on GDP. The report also mentions pollution-reducing measures by the government, including the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, in which gas is provided as fuel to the poor and women in villages.

Pollution is increasing the most in North India

Regarding the increasing pollution in India, a US research group also said in its study that pollution is very high in many cities of North India and about 480 million (480 million) people living in these cities face the world’s worst pollution level. Huh.

Pollution reached alarming levels in Delhi

In September last year, the Energy Policy Institute of the University of Chicago had also said in a report that if Delhi’s pollution comes up to the WHO guidelines, then the life of people living here can increase by 10 years.

India has an average of 70.3 µg/m air pollutant which represents the highest pollution in the world. According to WHO guidelines, the concentration of particles in the air, i.e. pollutants, should be only 10 µg/m.

NeW ORLEANS: With the Hurricane Ida slammed Louisiana on Monday, one person has died and over a million people were left without power as one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the US.

The hurricane has caused devastation across Louisiana, which made landfall late on Sunday morning at Port Fourchon, exactly 16 years since Hurricane Katrina, the catastrophic hurricane had killed over 1,800 on the Gulf coast in 2005.

According to authorities, this catastrophic hurricane has hit Louisiana as a Category 4 storm with 150 mile-per-hour winds, and torrential downpours.

President Joe Biden has declared the event a major disaster and ordered federal aid to help recovery efforts.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said Ida could be the state’s worst direct hit by a hurricane since the 1850s and promised a swift action to rescue people.

Desperate for rescue, locals posted their addresses and locations, directing rescue teams to their attics or rooftops.

Officials assured to intensify the rescue operation as the weather broke and the sun rose.

The torrential rains mostly moved into Mississippi on Monday as the storm slowly moved north.

Officials have predicted that Ida is likely to move over central and northeastern Mississippi, and move across the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday.

Jalandhar: To determine the cause of Uranium, Selenium and Arsenic contaminations in ground waters of Punjab, the Geological survey of India is going to initiate the survey in the state.

The Geological department sought forest clearance from the forest department to commence the survey from Bathinda, where the contaminated water is stated to be the prime cause of cancer.

The Geological department was to start the survey by drilling the area from last week, however, it was delayed as forest department objected to the process citing that it did not acquire mandatory clearance from the department, said a senior government officer.

In a letter wrote to forest department by Geological department on Tuesday sought clearance for 70m drilling for geo-environment project in Koreana village in Bathinda.

“The work would involve 70-80m drilling at each location in Punjab and no trees shall be cut down and soil will not be exposed to erosion due to this process,” the letter read.

On the request of the state Geological Programming Board to determine the cause of Uranium, Selenium and Arsenic contaminations in ground waters of Punjab, Haryana. Many cancer cases are being reported from the area. The work has tremendous societal impact and will facilitate the local population. The report of this two-year investigation will be handed over to Punjab government, the letter added.

“The very high values of Uranium and Selenium above permissible limit for human consumption have been found in the Bathinda district and drilling was initiated at Koreana village here but Punjab forest department officials stopped the process citing the forest clearance,” GS Tiwari, Deputy Director General of Geological survey of India said in the letter.

Various studies in recent period have indicated Punjab is facing a crisis situation due to high levels of uranium, arsenic and selenium in underground water table of Punjab. The situation is especially grim in Malwa belt of Punjab including Bathinda, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Roop Nagar and Fatehgarh sahib districts, which have high selenium contents in groundwater. Selenium Acceptable Limit (AL) for groundwater is fixed at 0.01 mg/l (ppm) by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), repots indicate.

Following this, the government decided to examine the exact cause of rising contamination in the drinking water and a two year survey from 2020-22 has been initiated in the Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh states by the Central government.

Jalandhar: In a move to boost sugarcane production as well as income of farmers in Punjab, the state government is emphasizing to increase about 40% area under one type of variety ahead of sugarcane sowing next month.
The Punjab government is planning to increase the area under new varieties including COPB 95, COPB 96, COPB 98, and CO118 etc. along with keeping 30 to 40 per cent area under CO20238 variety in the next three years.
The move is being seen to replace some varieties of seed, which are being sown for years by farmers but now leading to certain types of diseases in the crop.
According to government’s data, there is about 95,000 hectares (2,34,650 acres) area under the cane crop and 70% area is under just one variety (CO0238) of the sugarcane crop, which was introduced in 2015 in Punjab.
Experts state that CO0238 variety played a crucial role in boosting the income of farmers by producing a bumper yield along with better quality in previous years. However, in recent years, this variety has become quite prone to different diseases along with ‘Pokka Boeing’ disease attack.
“Pokka Boeing disease attacks on the shoots of cane when the crop is already 7-8 feet. It generally affects sugarcane during rainy season and spray of medicine is not possible, which leads to losses to farmers,” said Joginder Singh, a farmer.
With these new varieties, which are mostly early maturing varieties, even the cane crushing season can be advanced by one month against the traditional timing of late November.
In Punjab, cane is planted in two seasons including autumn and spring season and it is planted once in the four years as in first-year new seed is planted and then next two years ratoon crop is used and then in the fourth year the new seed is planted.
Ratoon crop or stubble crop is the part of cane left underground after harvesting and it gives rise to new crops as opposed to the plant crop. In Punjab, sugar harvesting starts after November 20 and it goes till March as early, mid and late varieties are crushed in these months.
Dr Gurvinder Singh Cane Commissioner said that CO0238 would be covered in 30 to 40% area while other varieties will also be sown on 25 to 30% each for the sustainability of sugarcane cultivation in the state.

Jalandhar: Padma Shri and environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal on Monday asked the politicians to make the “Environment and Water preservation” an important election issue in the upcoming state assembly elections.
He also asked the ruling Congress government to prepare a strategy to protect water resources and reforming the water supply industry at once.
Environmentalist Seechewal said due to rising pollution in the Beas, it had killed a gigantic number of fishes and other aquatic animals in the past several years but no initiative has been taken up by successive governments in this regard so far.
“Their sacrifice should not go unnoticed and for that, Congress government and opposition parties should announce that they will include the environment in their manifesto this time,” said Seechewal.
“Parties are announcing free electricity, food and other freebies but no one is talking about the real issues of Punjab including the exponential rise in water pollution. No politician is even ready to consider the depleting water as a genuine election issue. This is the high time to preserve the environment,” he said, adding that who will be responsible for this disaster as the dirty and poisonous waters flowing in all the rivers and drains of Punjab.
He also said it is also a violation of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974, but no concrete action was being taken against anyone by the government.
He said that the poisonous water from factories in Ludhiana is constantly being released in the Sutlej and many people in the nearby villages die due to the polluted water. It is a major reason behind the deadly diseases like cancer and black jaundice in the Malwa region. But, it seems that the government is unmoved, thereby not acting upon the matter seriously.
“I appeal to people of Punjab to support the candidate of parties, which assures to make the environment an important issue of his campaign and will clean the polluted water passing through their concerned constituency,” environmentalist said.

New Delhi: In yet another instance of the adverse impact of climate change, the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel revealed that the Indian Ocean is warming at a higher rate than other oceans and India will witness increased heatwaves and flooding.
Scientists said that these will be the irreversible effects of climate change and India would hit hard by heatwaves in the coming years.
Recently, stating ‘Code red for humanity’, UN sounds clarion call over humans ‘irreversible’ impact on climate.
The authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), “Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis”, said the warming of the ocean will lead to a rise in sea levels, which will contribute to more frequent and severe coastal flooding in low-level areas.
“For a country like India, some of the increase in heat waves is masked by aerosol emissions, and reducing that is important for air quality. We will also see an increase in the heatwaves, heavy rainfall events, and the further melting of glaciers, which will impact a country like India, more compound events from sea-level rise, which could mean flooding when tropical cyclones hit. These are some of the impacts which will not go away,” Friederike Otto, one of the authors of the report, said.
Another author, Swapna Panickal, who is a scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, said about 50 per cent of the sea level rise is due to thermal expansion.
She said if large-scale reductions are not made in the greenhouse gas emissions, limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees or 2 degrees Celsius will be beyond reach.

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.: Cemtrex Inc. a world leading industrial and manufacturing solutions company, announced today that India’s willingness to ratify the Paris Climate Accord, as indicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to U.S. President Obama during his recent visit to the White House, further strengthens the Company’s prospects of opening up worldwide markets for its VAMOX Greenhouse gas reduction technology. In April of this year the Chinese government strengthened its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions during the Chinese premier’s visit to the White House. The Company believes that these concrete efforts by India and China are potential catalysts for increased global demand for its existing methane (greenhouse gas) reduction technology, VAMOX. Cemtrex is one of only two companies in the world with the technology to supply this market.

So far, at least three dozen countries have said they will ratify the deal, and India’s participation will push the world over the threshold to ratification. “I think we are better-positioned than we ever have been to reach the goal of 55% of emissions and 55 countries by the end of this year, and I think this statement should provide significant additional momentum toward this global push,” said Brian Deese, Obama’s senior energy and climate adviser.

Cemtrex Chairman and CEO, Saagar Govil , commented, “We are delighted to see the world’s largest players working together towards improved climate control regulation and excited that VAMOX can play an important role in sustainability.”

Cemtrex is one of only two companies in the world with critical greenhouse gas reduction technology.
