Bharat Jodo Yatra suspended for 24 hours after death of MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh

Chandigarh: Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, who was part of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, passed away due to a heart attack.

Following this, the Congress party has stopped the Bharat Jodo Yatra for 24 hours. Now the yatra will start from Khalsa College Ground in Jalandhar tomorrow, said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

He wrote in a tweet, “Bharat Jodo Yatra will be suspended for 24 hours as a mark of respect for Santokh Singh Choudhary, Congress MP from Jalandhar who passed away this morning. The Yatra will resume tomorrow afternoon from Khalsa College Ground, Jalandhar.”

During the Bharata Jodo Yatra, his health suddenly deteriorated and he fell down, after which he was admitted to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Several political leaders have expressed grief over his death. Chaudhary Santokh Singh was an MP from Jalandhar. Chaudhary Santokh Singh was busy preparing for the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

There was a lot of enthusiasm among the Congress workers about the bharat jodo yatra which was to enter Jalandhar district today morning. He became an MP for the second time.

Earlier, representing phillaur assembly seat, he was also a minister in the cabinet of Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Harcharan Singh Brar in the Congress government from 1992 to 1997.
