New Delhi: The central government has described the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) documentary on the Gujarat riots as “part of propaganda” and said it cannot “glorify” such a film.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Thursday that the recently aired BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi is part of propaganda that questions his leadership during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
There haa been sharp reactions to the BBC’s two-part series “India: The Modi Question”.
“We think this is part of propaganda to carry forward a particular narrative and there is an agenda behind it,” a State Department spokesperson said. When Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat state, there were fierce riots there.
Significantly, the committee formed on the directions of the Supreme Court to investigate the Gujarat riots had given a clean chit to Narendra Modi. The committee did not find any evidence against Modi in the case.
