Chandigarh: Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO today informed that the construction of upcoming International Airport at Halwara is likely to be completed by July 2023. He informed that the tenders of all construction work has already been allotted by the Public Works Department (PWD).
He said this while inspecting the ongoing construction work of upcoming International Airport at Halwara. He was also accompanied by Raikot MLA Hakam Singh Thekedar, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik, Ludhiana (Rural) SSP Navneet Singh Bains, besides several others.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Cabinet Minister said that civil works amounting to Rs 46.91 crore have already been started. The works include construction of internal roads, taxi way, apron, estate public health services, campus lighting interim airport, construction of terminal building, sub station, toilet block, parking, etc is also under construction.
Listing Halwara Airport an ambitious project of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Cabinet Minister said that every effort was being made to start the flights as soon as possible from this project which will pave way for the holistic development of the region, besides it would also help the industry in Ludhiana and other adjoining districts by a large extent.
He said that the upcoming airport is a full-fledged airport with a runway on which wide bodied aircraft can land.
He said even Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is taking keen interest in the project, adding that in January this year the chief minister himself had also inspected the ongoing work at Civil Air terminal Halwara and asked the officers to expedite the work so that it is completed at the earliest.
ETO further stated that the Punjab vidhan sabha has recently passed a resolution to request the Centre to name the upcoming International Airport at Indian Air force Station Halwara, Ludhiana as ‘Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport’.
