Moscow: Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, died on Tuesday. He was 91 years old. Gorbachev attempted many reforms in the Soviet Union, and in this episode he played an important role in the abolition of communism, the breakup of the Soviet Union, and the end of the Cold War.

Moscow’s Central Clinical Hospital said in a statement that Gorbachev died after a prolonged illness. No other information has been provided. Gorbachev remained in power for less than seven years.
