New Delhi: In an contempt of court case, the Supreme Court of India has imposed four months imprisonment on Vijay Mallya on Monday.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on him.
A three-judge bench of Justices UU Lalit- headed by Ravindra S Bhat and PS Narasimha pronounced the verdict on Monday. The bench had reserved its order in the case on March 10. The Supreme Court had convicted Vijay Mallya in 2017.
Earlier, in the case, the apex court had observed that Mallya is acting like a free man in the United Kingdom and no information is coming out about the proceedings related to him.
Before reserving the verdict on the sentence, the Supreme Court had said, “We have been told that there are some cases (against Mallya) going on in the UK. We don’t know how many cases are pending. The point is, as far as our judicial jurisdiction is concerned, how long will we be able to go on like this.
