New Delhi: Legendary Kathak dancer Birju Maharaj died at his home here in the early hours of Monday.
He would have been 84 next month.
His family and disciples were playing ‘antakshari’ after dinner when he suddenly took ill, his family members said.
A recipient of the country’s second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, he was fondly called Pandit-ji or Maharaj-ji by his disciples and legions of followers, and was one of India’s best known artistes.Received the sad news of the demise of Kathak maestro Shri Birju Maharaj.
