Lt Col booked on charge of raping wife

Jalandhar: The Punjab police have registered a case of rape against a serving Lieutenant Colonel posted at the Baddowal military here.

The case has been registered against Lt Col Nitin Sharma, a resident of Zirakpur on the complaint filed by his wife before the Ludhiana police.

In her complaint, she said that they got married in December 2010 and soon after the marriage, her husband started mentally and physically torturing her citing her parents had not spent enough money on the wedding as though he was a serving senior army officer.

She had shifted to her parents’ house in Khanna in 2019 and her husband assured her that he would give her a mutual divorce if she came to attend a party at the Baddowal military camp on April 10, 2019.
“After the party, my husband took me to a military guest house and attempted to violate me. Later, when he came to take our son, he developed physical relations with me against my wishes,” the woman told the police in her compliant.

Dakha  police station Sub-inspector Kamaldeep Kaur said a case has been registered on the compliant filed a woman and further investigation is underway.
