Chandigarh: Fulfilling one of its biggest election promises, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will provide 300 units of free power each month to the people of Punjab beginning from Friday (July 1).
The move came after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann after assuming charge as CM in April had announced that his government will fulfil all the poll promises made to Punjabis during election campaigns. He had announced to fulfil the first guarantee of giving free electricity from July 1.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the election campaigns last year, AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had given his first guarantee to the people of Punjab that if the party formed the government in the state, it will provide free electricity up to 300 units free to reduce the financial burden of the people.
Lashing out at successive governments for looting the people of Punjab for decades, CM said, “While all other governments took five full years to keep their poll promises, our government had fulfilled its major guarantee within three months of coming to power. From today, every family across Punjab will get 300 units of free power each month.”
Reiterating his government’s firm stand for the holistic development of Punjab, CM Mann said that all the remaining guarantees will be fulfilled soon.
Mann also clarified that his government has waived off arrears of electricity bills pending till December 31, 2021, of all households.
He said there were some confusion among people that arrears of upto 2 KW were waived off but it is being clarified that pending electricity bills of all connections till December 31, 2021 have been waived off by his government.
